For variety put all of the blocks in your inventory and scroll with a scroll wheel so it randomizes the blocks learned this from a YouTuber/twitch streamer named kriddus

I play skyblock, first step is making the island not flat. So it is a chore. Learning how to build the natural rise of mountains and overall topography.
Current project. Turn a super flat island into an island that looks to be built in the crater of a mountain. Giant pond with waterfall and giant blossom willow tree in the center.

I remember once in 1.14 i dried up and expanded a large chunk of a river just because it didn't fit two of my design of ship with space so they wouldn't bump, it took a lot of effort but it turned out great

I will contest a point made in 2.
DON'T look at where you want your paths to be. Make them in places you already automatically traverse, because that's how paths form.
Alternatively, make paths in preffered shapes (don't zigzag them too much though) and confine them with things like fields or buildings, so it once again feels natural, because it's the only path you could take.

Hey man! This looks awesome! Love the pathway! I definitely recommend using a combo of moss, podzol and corase dirt in the pathway as well as adding flowers, azaleas, dripleaves, ferns and grass!

A trick I use and don't see is biome specific or mood plant life.
My town is scattered with white and yellow flowers for a light happy feel, where as my spruce forest is dotted with blue for a colder feel.

For my paths, i like to add random stone brick walls and whatever wood type fence posts. Just randomly along the path, usually topped with a lamp, 2, maybe 3 high, and usually no more than 3 across. Usually around a bend, a lot of times for an awkward drop off, to like block it.
It adds a lived in feel. Usually save this technique for paths that go to a village or some structure i made that needs some "life"
