Following on from my top 5 tips for beginners, this video covers the main skills you need to know as a player of average skill. I’ll be using black Ops 3 for my examples but many of these concepts can be universally applied to every first person shooter.

The best beginner/intermediate tip is to stick to the edges of the map as it minimizes exposure from different angles that you can't cover, while also giving you a flank against enemies in the center of the map.
Another tip I think is worth considering is; Experimenting with guns and mixing that with whatever game modes you play most, and working that with map sizes. I see a lot of CoD players who always stick with one or two weapon. Normally I use an SMG because I like to rush and go for smaller streaks, but recently I've found Light machine guns to be quite useful to hold down points in Domination or Hardpoint. Sometimes overkill classes work great too. I use Shotgun/SMG combination on smaller maps like Combine all the time.

Advanced tip: Sometimes letting the enemy know your location can be beneficial. Example: baiting an enemy into a claymore (or equivalent).
