The Virtual Plague That Nearly Wiped Out The World of Warcraft

In September of 2005, the infamous Corrupted Blood plague swept through World of Warcraft and quickly became a full-blown a virtual pandemic.

The epidemic began with the introduction of Hakkar the Soulflayer who when attacked would cast a hit point-draining debuff called “Corrupted Blood” on players. While the spell, was supposed to only last for a few seconds and function only within the new area of Zul’Gurub, an oversight by the developers allowed pets and minions to take the affliction out of the raid zone.

  1. ive been watching alot of videos on this wow plague and yours is the best. The way you tell the story and the graphics to go along with it, Very well done good sir. Have a subscribe

  2. The screenshot at 4:40 was NOT from Corrupted Blood. The screenshotting player is playing a blood elf (released patch 2.0) and in the bottom left corner is a death knight (released 3.0). There is also a flying mount on the right side of the screen that wasn't released until 4.2.

Also, re: 3:47; players didn't get the ability to put signs up ingame until some time after Mists of Pandaria released (MoP was 5.0, the sign might've been 5.2?). So at most they were just spamming /say with "stay away". I understand this was probably layman's terms for viewers who don't play WoW, since I get the feeling you guys have definitely played WoW, but as a longtime player it was just slightly irksome 🙂

Great video! I have no idea how I missed it when it first came out. Fantastic production value as usual. There's an absolute assload of misinfo surrounding corrupted blood, and even moreso now that a LOT of people are revisiting the incident through the lens of our modern world, but this video was pretty darn accurate. Great job as always Akshon.
