  1. Hey just wanted to give a few words about the video. Obviously I get into some pretty nasty stuff here. Toxicity isn't something I generally like to hang around because it usually just breeds and festers even more toxicity. That being said, I have about 300ish videos(at least) about classic so far, most of them sharing what I like about the game and what it does well. Over the past year some of these things were reinforced, and others….not so much. The community in particular, while it can be great, can also be REALLY bad – it's something I've been wanting to talk about for a while but took me about 10 months to be able to put it together in a way I wanted to. My past 3 months ranking also really opened up my eyes to how bad it can really get. I'm pretty proud of the channel overall not only for the (generally) positive community who follows it, but also because I share honestly what I think are the game's highlights and lowlights, and I'd be remiss if I only talk about the good and ignore the bad.

All that being said, as I said in the video I made lots of great friends in the game. I still think the community is one of its best aspects – but it's just like real life. For every great person you meet, there are many more you want nothing to do with – it's just amplified 10x due to the anonymity of it all. I tried to make the video mostly constructive, but also a bit entertaining(hopefully) so if nothing else you can walk away with a few laughs at the craziness that can go on.

That's about it – just wanted to include this little write-up since it's probably the most spicy video I've ever posted on here(or maybe it was my "Most Disappointing Moments" video? idk). Hope you enjoy regardless.

  2. In retail vanilla back in ‘04 I got kicked out of a raiding guild super early because I went temporarily AFK because I had an eyelash attack my eye for about 20 seconds while we fought trash mobs. I was a shaman on backup healing. Yeah…… Community was what ultimately lead me to quitting the game prior to TBC

  3. I think the biggest problem Is how people started treating gaming In general. Back then people were mostly just trying to have fun and make some friends. Now It’s all about numbers, people don’t care about anything other than being top rank or on top of the leaderboard. This pursuit of being better than everyone else ruins online gaming as a whole imo.

  4. I knew this is exactly what would happen with WoW classic. Because all the people who claimed the game was “better in Vanilla/BC” were people who were bad at the game and miss the times when almost everyone else was bad at the game. Most the people who think the best was at its best during Vanilla/BC never even had a max level fully geared toon, let alone multiple toons or the knowledge of how to play them at a high level. The game didn’t get worse when Wrath of the Lich King came out (especially PVP) it actually got better. People just hate what WoW became but the standards were raised and the community doesn’t praise bad players who hinder the success of others. Literally every guy I’ve ever met in person who claimed every expansion after Wrath sucked, ends up being a dude who knows little to nothing about the end game, has no mention worthy PVP/PvE achievements and I’ve only even met 2 who had more than one max level toon. Just like the people who claim RuneScape was better before the GE.

  5. People were so forgiving in 2004/5. My first time in RFC, I had an incredibly helpful spell to keep our tank from getting hurt so much. So I proudly pressed Z, which was bound to Fear.

We wiped. Entirely my fault. The response was simply "Don't fear in a dungeon unless some asks you too please."

Zero rage. And I learned. People just aren't that way these days.

  6. All gaming communities are toxic. The majority of gamers in todays world are 30+ year old men. This is just a fact.

If you're 30+ years old and a man and your main hobby is video games – you're either a successful/wealthy streamer or probably pretty miserable. That's all there is to it.

  7. "You can really lose yourself in it". Amen to that. Brilliant game, albeit tainted by the factors you cover here. And others, obviously, but the social aspect is probably the main thing. I was watching and thinking about all the saddo's and losers who rage about virtual shit that means nothing, and then I remembered an incident many years ago when some friends and I ran … hell, can't even remember where it was. BRD maybe? Anyway, we were after Drakkisath's shield. I remember that bit, oh yes I do. We ran the dungeon many times with no drop, and then one day we were a party member short so I invited one of my RL friends (I'd known the guy 20+ years back then). And of course the shield dropped, and I needed it (as the guild's MT) and he (arms warrior) needed it too, and he won. He claimed it was 'in case he ever tanked', which he never did. We remain very good friends to this day, but I just can't bring myself to forgive him for that. It may be virtual and petty, but stuff like that still gets to you on a fundamental level. Games can be toxic, and it just seems to get worse with every new game I play online. Wouldn't it be nice if people just weren't such dicks?

  8. the streamer addon was the best thing about wow, who wants to play with some attention seeking idiot who never shuts up and is looking at his chat and thinking of ways to make content half the raid..

  9. whenever i get rage whispers from killing people in the open world just makes me kill them more. I killed a warlock while lvling, keep in mind they were 2 lvls above my priest i was lvling, and they decided to whisper me and talk shit. I proceeded to camp their warlock for an hour. They then logged over to their main which I was expecting so I logged on to mine, but we were the same faction….HOWEVER! We were in a BFA zone and i had that dagger that makes everyone hostile so I asked if anyone had seen a PoS Spriest ganking people. He was a rogue and invited me. I then used the dagger and kill the rogue on my main. Was a good day.

  10. The best years of my life ironically were in the early days of Wow. 2007 was a magical year for sure. I got to college. Got a badass gaming PC, dated a girl from HS that I had a crush on since the moment I saw her. That was the only year of my life everything just seemed to come together. Then everything fell apart. Ugh makes me wish I could go back an experience it all over again. Man life sucks now.

  11. It's even worse now in Wrath thanks to a magic word called gearscore.

Gearscore too low? Hope you didn't plan on playing the game. I've spent the entire duration of phase 1 running heroics to get my gs up and somehow despite every slot being 200 item level, it's still too low for phase 1 content.

And that's only the beginning. Not using the right spec? You aren't playing the game either. You enjoy your own custom made spec better than copy-pasting it from wowhead? You're not having fun the right way.

Don't have the right addons? Well. that's even worse. I've been sent death threats. suicide hotline numbers and constant harassment in and out of game on platforms like discord and reddit where people already know which character I play on.

Everytime I try to join a raid, I get so nervous that they'll find out I'm "not playing the right way" that it feels like my heart is about to jump out of my throat.

It just isn't fun. I loved this game when I was a kid but as an adult, it feels like a second job that I'm constantly about to get fired from.
