Sometimes we don’t talk about things because we’re just used to them, but for many new players, this is a massive barrier to entry! This is a problem mostly invisible to players like us, but I know from experience that newer players absolutely suffer here, and that hurts WoW long term.

They are not mandatory….. You need to play and use the UI and then figure out the best way it works for YOU. Too many idiots see a streamers UI and copy it not knowing how to use it or what they are looking at. I have been heroic raiding and then mythic when it switched with default UI look for years and it's perfectly fine.
I feel like this is already dishonest. Most of the other mmos STILL actively implement the same basic ui. It isn't terrible at all and works more than fine. You never needed any add-on ever. Still don't. Yes, even when playing hard-core high end. This is s bogus lie that elitists have woven into the narrative for far too long.
Just a week ago you were PRAISING the new UI.
Weak Auras and Rotation Macros are basically BOTTING. You arent playing the game a PROGRAM is doing it for you. I dont use them and have been playing since 2005.
should listen to you amazing ideas/porblems for Blizzard
Too little, too late.
I play with original UI, only using addons for DPS meters and little more, and I liked it then and I like it now. I think it's pretty simple and direct. I guess people who are used to have it hugely altered don't feel the same way, but for me, as a player who always used the original one, I did not have any major issues
Blizzard doesn't have to pay for development if people solve the issues via weak auras. And yea, IMO the game is garbage if you remove ui add-ons and nameplates
Bro I love the content but please stop over-acting in these videos, it doesn't sound like natural human speech.
Shoutout to Ipse's WA's! <3
Removing addons (not all) has made the player experience better for me. I still have addons, but it's far less than I used to have
Hoping the continue work on the UI, it's a might fine start what they've done for DF
I can't bring myself to play anymore because of this, the new talent system ruined me.
You know. SWTOR isn’t the greatest MMO. But I will say this. Their UI is completely customizable where you can move everything and anything around any where on the screen, change the size of it, including making buffs and debuffs larger, and you can also make certain things not show up on screen at all. This was something they have always had. But even that wasn’t perfect and still had a lot of issues.
Some of us need TRAINING WHEELS for some of these AddOns. Right before Shadowlands came out, a very helpful fellow hunter in a dungeon took some time to talk to me about my talents and setup. He insisted I needed weak auras and plater. I did go download them. But when I went to use them, I found there was of course some setting up required. It was so confusing and complicated. I tried to find YouTube tutorials. Those seemed just as complicated and confusing as the damn AddOns themselves. In my frustration, I finally threw my hands up and said fk it, whatever. I KNOW this has hurt my gameplay and has placed me solidly in the “casual gamer” grouping for years. For some of us, less is more. I can’t parse through all the options available with an untrained eye. Even choosing a preset weak auras for hunters was not helpful because I STILL couldn’t figure out how the fk to apply it! I’d love to be a more competitive player, but I don’t think I can do that without helpful AddOns.
Great points.
My gf recently got into wow and it’s shown me how many things I’m just used to dealing with that new players have to jump hoops to understand. Problems we haven’t thought about in years are hours worth of studying for new players. Like finding resources online, figuring out elvui or wa and how mmo rotations work and all of the different instanced modes and organizing their play style. I like the idea of customizing my ui but then I look at games like OW and how simple that UI is, which makes me wonder why we cling to such complexity in MMOs. OW feels so immersive compared to wow when you’re zoned in to a match. I don’t have the answer myself but I hope that we can move towards a more engaging experience with wow. I think simplifying rotations and making more movement active fights would be a good starting point (i realize that rotations aren’t hard to understand but like Bellular is saying, it’s about where your eyes are). We see plenty of games with combos that we don’t need 36 buttons to pull off
Just use ElvUI and Weak Auras. Set up your own stuff based on your own preferences. Im a clicker and I need everything clearly visible from my bars. Having buffs tracked way up by the minimap or over my characters head is just horrible.
So now blizzard is no longer an evil company do you give us permission to play?
Dude expansive ui doesn’t mean better. Look at Elden Ring for example. It just makes it sleep mode.
Why don't gamers believe in the theory of marginal utility? Is it because gamers are neckbeard retards?
That dutch angle tho 11:20
In my opinion, they should ban all add-ons to make an even playing field. But we all know the "elite" players can't play without their add-ons. Tells you everything you need to know about the good players. I've played for 15 years without addons besides a dps meter.
I really like using TellMeWhen. But the core seriously needs to be fixed.
Hi Bellular. interesting video. I've found an interesting solution for myself to keep an eye on cooldowns without having to resort to an addon. I simply built an action bar that only pops up in combat and contains just a few key spells that I want to keep track of.
Of course, this isn't a complete solution, but it's still quite satisfactory. I also think that more things should be customizable. Players have different preferences when it comes to the UI. Just like the life bars. Here I found out that I can't get around "name plates" as an addon.
LG, from Freakfactory
No addons for me, new WoW UI is good enough for me. Dont @ me.
i have played on the classic UI from ages and had no problem with it (ofc as i healer i used healbot cos in fact there was no raid frames if iam correct and as a mage i had to click one by one player to give intellect or just use dust to cast mass) and i just get used to it that much that when they changed ui i HAD to find addon that brings back old school UI
Just use HEKILI addon.
I think we're whining too much as a community… Just use weakauras and everything's okay 😀 it isn't that hard
WoW without UI add-ons feels like what I imagine playing a non-guitar hero game with a guitar hero controller would feel like.
They can fix the game left and right. But until they do something about the toxic experience for new players. We aren’t ever gonna stop the bleeding. Help new people out. No one gives a f how elite you think you are. If we never get/ retain new players. Then we are SOL.
I loved the UI we had in shadowland the one you are using in your video is way too intrusive and ruins immersion. If you do raiding it makes sense why you like it but for me who doesn't it is a horrible setup
I watched this with interest because I have a background in UX and UI design, but to be honest I find the default interface fine most of the time. The only add-on I've used to help understand what was going on is ArcHud so I could get a health bar closer to my character in the middle of the screen. As monitors get wider, we have to dart our eyes around more. Now that they let us move things around, I'm only using the built-in UI.
Icelance should glow
That's another bug
Very tested expansion lul
This guy always tries to act like he’s more clever than everyone else but just keeps pumping out shitty negative content lmao , same shit as two years ago when I last watched one of his videos.
they should just doa built in hekeli addon that tells you the rotation. also add some like audio queue to tell people what to click right something like mortal kombats finish him sound but its what ever the ability name is and obviously let it be able to be turned of cause i dont want it
I agree this game has a massive barrier to entry. Not just entry, but it happens again at end game. I was trying to explain to a couple of my friends what to do at end game (What Do I do Now that I maxed?) Even as I was explaining it to them, I was struck by how complicated it would seem to a new player. We all have years of experience, so we "get" it.
It is difficult to have a game fro both experienced players and caters to new players. I almost think they have simple servers that are less complex. New players start on the simple server, then if they want to stay they gravitate to the real server.
Now if they could just get out of their own way…
I’ve never been more uncomfortable playing wow lately. All the UI UX stuff here Im suddenly very aware of now.
No, the hilarious thing about the Personal Resource Display is that you have to disable it and install NugComboBar or sth because it DOESN'T EFFING WORK. Oh sure, tell me I've got full combo points when I've got like…two. I love wasting 40 Energy on pathetically weak finishers!
the addon ui sucks balls the base one is just fine dont neeed shit popping up all over my screen confusing me even more tracking things and keeping up with it isnt that hard at all
Bruh. My Wrath realm still has the floating necropli from the scourge invasion and the argent crusade in capital cities. Asking for a decent UI is so far beyond their ability. They can't even get a 14 year old game to do what it did 14 years ago when they have the blueprint for how it was done.
This is vastly different depending on the class/spec you play, and depending on the talents you choose. Specs and talent builds that mostly rely on cooldowns have it so much easier. Game really needs better buff/debuff tracking
