  1. so, high king maulgar should have been first. You actually used 3 unconventional tanks there. You had the mage on the mage, The warlocks enslaving and tanking with the felpuppies, AND either 2 ranged (usually hunter or ele shaman) OR a boomkin on the shaman. Other fights i would have mentioned instead of the dumb vehicle fights would have been illidari council, eredar twins, and maybe kiting adds on majordomo or using holy paladin aggro for getting aggro on sons during ragnaros.

  2. Mage tanking in Gruul's Lair was probably the most fun I've ever had playing WoW. Such a great idea, I feel like that would be harder to pull off now with all the balancing.

  3. As a boomie main from Classic til now (WotLK Classic), I enjoyed tanking Kiggler in Gruul's Lair in TBC. In Naxx 10, my guild has a healer and me swap the auras in the back for Four Horsemen.

  4. Regarding the Blood Prince Council, there was the easy alternative of playing a DK, and saving your Frost runes for the nuclei, since it applied a dot, and while in Frost Presence it also dealt a fuck-ton of threat. you just had to make sure you were dealing with it far away from where the other two bosses were being fought, or at least tell people not to use AOE as not to pull the nuclei away.
Meanwhile you'd be constantly hitting the boss with blood/heart strike, and death/scourge strike. But then again DKs were strong in general, so…

  5. Choppers didnt gather Pyrite , it was the gunner in the Demolisher who shot the floating Pytite and when the drop down they could pick it up. Choppers threw oil on the ground which slowed the adss.

  6. Duuuuude you missed Garalon, from Heart of Fear! Big bug boss that didn't actually autoattack, but spammed a cone AoE pincer ability that "tanks" needed to solo. Rogues could spam Feint to cut the damage in half, and Combat spec in particular was amazing because the boss was actually 5 targets: body and 4 legs, so Blade Flurry rekt it. I did top damage even as a "tank".

  7. I really miss the tank metamorphosis glyph for warlocks, I think it was only in cata and mop and it was my favorite time as a warlock main. It was also super badass to retain your own appearance but with horns and wings during the form!

  8. Is it just me or were hunter pets able to tank dungeon bosses back in the day, only if the tank died. Not that it was common but as a hunter main since BC i remember id turn back on the taunt for my pet once the tank died and hope the healer noticed. I feel like pets used to be much tankier back in the day. God i miss old hunters playstyle/specs, old survival and Marks. Dropped my hunter main that i played for about 10 years after the spec changes, just was not a fan of the reworks. And not a fan of pets mostly just being cosmetic as opposed to the old pets being more unique, having subclasses/talents and abilities. All the unique aspects of hunters have been withered down to just bare bone specs and pets.

Also, I love the creativity in having different classses/specs being able to do certain things on certain encounters in raids. Like they experimented with from vanilla to WotLK. Really wish they would have continued down that route with different classes with their unique abilities that they used to bring to raids. Fuck i just sound like a boomer but I really miss the old design philosophy wow used to have. I didn't realize how much I missed it until i started playing a WotLK private server a year or 2 before classic came out and wished I could go back.

  9. My guild would use a warlock tank for the first boss in crucible (bfa) to tank the ranged boss & our two reg tanks would just swap off on the big boy cause it was easier (starting out) & by the time we did it on mythic we were just used to doing it like that by that point I guess 🤷🏼‍♂️

  10. I feel like the warlock tank should have been given an honorable mention for MoP as well. If you took the glyph Dark Apotheosis it gave you a special transformation as a warlock to become physically more tanky and changed a few abilities to allow better threat gain as well. No joke, on my server there were legit warlocks decked out in late game tank trinkets/rings/necklaces/back pieces and sometimes weapons to push their tank stats even higher. It was niche for the expansion and was removed not long after, but man… it was SO much damn fun using that glyph and having the extra tankiness on top of already being hard to kill with as much survivability as we had during that expansion.

  11. My guild never got past twin emps in vanilla, aaand Im pretty sure we didnt try using warlock tanks which is probably why. Boss strats were top secret back in those days, and most warlocks in my server cared more about pvp than pve so they didnt step up and be the guild hero for us back then =(. Iirc we put 2 traditional tanks on the caster (1 on each side with 1 caster boss only tank), and just had all our casters kill the bugs while melee did the boss damage. We got the boss to like 1% twice. So soul crushing!

  12. We actually played a strategy for garrosh 25hc to only use 2 instead of 3 tanks by having a DPS warrior take the boss for about 8 seconds, to drop the debuff on the main tank.

Running 2/2/21 allowed us to skip the 2nd and 3rd intermission.

  13. I remember tanking Krosh Firehand on my mage back in the day. I also remember getting one shotted a few times. 😀 Then in WotLK i warlock tanked Blood prince fight in ICC. I had little else to do back then so i had a bunch of max level alts. My main was pally healz. Always wanted to tank with my pally, but then my guild is like "yo come tank Gruuls lair bro!… but on your mage" lol wut. I knew nothing of that fight as in TBC i mostly did Kara sooooo. O.O

  14. You forgot one that was unique, and that was tanking Sindragosa in Icecrown using a hunters pet. This was due to if I remember correctly because most of the damage Sindragosa did to tanks was considered AoE. And hunter pets took significantly less damage from AoE.

I remember during my raid groups progress in Icecrown this is how we tanked Sindragosa. At least until the tanks were gear up.
