EA SPORTS™ WRC | Second impression of a DiRT Rally 2.0 fan (2024 Q3)

#easportswrc #gaming #simracing

During the first impression early this year EA SPORTS™ WRC failed to deliver due to a FFB/control issue with my rig I could not fix. After 6 months, could Codies fix it? And what about other aspects of the game, including the freshly introduced and controversial kernel level anti-cheat system? Let’s talk about it.

If you like, check GamerMuscleVideos channel that I mentioned. I think it is an awesome sim racing channel with great insight/suggestions and some well deserved sarcasm:

  1. I am really really torn between both games.

I've got too many hours in both.

when EaWRC performs well and all my hardware registers with the game, the driving feel in WRC mostly the grip as compared to DR2.0, is so so so much more authentic.

I felt dirt rally 2 almost forced lateral / drifting almost too often, regardless of surface when you compare it to EaWRC or Real life modern footage.

I LOVE Both games, I just wish EAWRC looked and sounded like DR2.0, and the engine was better suited.
( would love hard core damage to be like RBR ) but now I'm renting and dreaming.

loved this video mate. you NAILED IT.

  2. I played about 40 hours in Dirt 4, Rally and 60+ in DR 2.0. I have about 25 hours in WRC. I still really dislike it, it looks horrible and its performance lacks in many aspects. The driving itself is fine, it's fun to play but the graphical and performance side really kill this game.

  3. Pre order to play on early access, after few months it's taking dust. Graphic engine looks terrible even at max detail (although you can gain some sharpness and detail using Reshade and CAS and Luma sharpen). the tarmac still feels very wrong, with the cars feeling very floaty and not feeling weight transfers.
And the cars rotating on a central pivot still in 2024 is a cheap wap to implement cars physics model in a video game.
To be honest it was the same model on dirt rally 2, which i loved honesty, but that's a cheap way to recycle old tech and hiding it in a modern graphic engine, which managed to look terrible anyway!
    Such a disappointment.
Force feedback though is good, quite detailed.
Preferring AC mods for rally and RBR, those are great.

  4. I really wanted to like this game but EA just does their best to prevent that. Optimization is still non-existent and for me to get a consistent 60 FPS, I have to make the game look like something from 2010 and even then, the texture pop-in and stutters are still there. I have a Ryzen 5 2600 CPU + RX 5600 XT GPU, not the newest hardware out there but it has no problems with newer titles on high settings 1080p like Baldur's Gate 3, Metro Exodus etc.

But here comes EA SPORTS WRC with graphics from the 2010s and system requirements of the 2030s. The kernel anti-cheat is just the final nail in the coffin of this pile of garbage, not only did it screw over Linux and Steamdeck users, it reportedly made the game less stable even on Windows machines.

I may sound really angry, but really I'm just incredibly sad. I'm sad that the sequel to one of my favorite franchises is just a terrible cash grab. I'm sad that I still have to turn to abandonware like the DIRT Rally games and RBR to have a decent rally sim experience. I'm sad I spent money on this.

  5. Played the demo a couple of months ago. Saw the game on sale recently, and decided to try the demo again before buying. After installing the update, the game blue screened my computer everytime I tried to start the game. Tried maybe ten times with different changes, but nothing worked. The problem is definitely related to the recent updates. It worked before, and no other game does this.

  6. I have held off buying this game on pc because of all the issues I have seen in reviews, looks like I might give it a go just a bit concerned about graphical issues. Does it still have loads of pop in with textures and objects?

  7. I hadn't played EA WRC since February this year. I just fell out of love with it and became engrossed in Gran Turismo 7 and Assetto Corsa on the PC.

I loaded up EA WRC yesterday for the first time, saw there was 9Gb of updates, and then gave it a go. I had so much fun and thoroughly enjoyed it. It feels improved in tiny ways everywhere. Still a tiny bit of screen tearing (I'm on PS5) but the feedback felt better, the traction on rear wheel drive cars is slightly improved, and I just felt more comfortable overall. I'm going to get back into the game again. And your video was suggested to me the next day, so my improved experience has aligned with yours. 👍

  8. I enjoy being able to play both Dirt Rally 2.0 and EA WRC!
EA WRC has by far the better FFB and steering feel!
Dirt Rally 2.0 has by far better visuals and performance!
Both games have strengths and weaknesses, both are very enjoyable and both have really annoying quirks like FFB and physics on tarmac. It’s so bad that I just don’t use the tarmac stages in either of the games.
I only play racing sims in VR and I have a high end PC and EA WRC doesn’t look good, but the details coming through my DD2 are a lot more satisfying than DR2.0.
It’s a shame both games come with compromises, but overall both games are awesome!
