  1. I mean, Patchwerk had mechanics. The hateful strikes were a very basic mechanic to deal with. But they were there.

For any who don't know, the mechanic is 2nd through 4th in threat are eligible for him to hit with a hateful strike. He will always hit the player within these 3 spots with the most health. Hateful strike did around 22k damage before mitigation, at a time when tanks had around 10k hp. His hateful strikes would hit most tanks for around 80-95% of their health. He uses hateful strike every 1.5 seconds or so.

What this meant was healers had to have the 3 off tanks topped up at all times. If he ever did a hateful strike on a tank, and all three off tanks were below say 90% health, it would kill the tank. If one of these tanks die, it is almost guaranteed he will start hateful striking the melee dps. Because it is difficult to make sure the 2 other tanks are fully topped off before the next hateful. If that happens, he kills melee dps once every 1.5seconds or so. Once he's worked through all the melee dps and it's only the tank and offtanks left, the healers will likely not be able to top off the offtanks in time, leading to them being killed. Once none are left, the main tank gets killed.

It was a healer fight/dps check. And the dps check was not to be stupid and pass your tanks in threat. Healers had to heal a massive amount of damage in quick order to ensure tanks were not popped off.
