I want to have faith they won't go crazy with the cash shop but I can't help but feel like just gold purchased houses will look like a shack and the cash shop folks will be living in a mansion.

They should've made this patch 1 of a Classic+ version of the game. Retail is too new player unfriendly & systems like everything syncing to my level pushes me away. Neat y'all are getting this & the shots fired at FF are cute, but I can't really get excited for a game design philosophy about rushing to endgame & skipping two decades of story.

You should be able to call the HOA on neighbors you don’t like. Also make the (location of self dwelling) lockpickable and destructible so you can (cast a fire spell) which causes said location to take fire damage and you get to play a gambling minigame whether or not insurance (if you bought it) pays around 10% of the house value or if you just owe several million gold and have your bank inventory wiped out. Lol.
Bad neighborhoods should also allow pvp.
Instanced neighborhoods sounds really interesting. I would love to build my own secret base though somewhere out in the wild! eg; you're in elwynn forest and you run into a cave and want to make a secret base deep in a mine or something where only you have access, but can invite people if you want. If Blizz does this right, there are so many directions and professions that can be apart of this.
Isn't it classic Blizzard to loot everybody else's implementation and cobble together the best version (at least in their opinion)?

3:45 Actually – what they announced with the neighbourhoods seems to be inspired a lot by Lord of the Rings Online (which wouldn't be bad, I like the vibe of the neighbourhoods in LotRO).
All in all – better to copy good quality features from various other games than invent something entirely new that maybe doesn't work out or is too ambitious. They can always branch out later with more zones or additional features (as a matter of fact they mentioned in the post that this is just the start with plans of adding more in the future. If I'd to guess I expect that we'll get 2 housing zones in Midnight and another one or two zones in The Last Titan).
In my opinion a new housing zone (maybe even with unique additional features) can absolutely be a big thing for future expansions
5:53 True, but every other game isn't a subscription based game which makes the difference. I'm not happy about a cash shop even existing in a game that I already pay for on a monthly basis. In a free to play title – sure whatever, they somehow have to make money to keep the game going. But that's what we already pay for in WoW with the subscription.
Honestly, please stop adding stuff like this to the game and fix the stuff that most players want like instance tuning and character balancing. But I know there is a group of players who love this stuff so…meh
If people say this is stolen from Final Fantasy they should have a look at Lord of the Rings Online.. Had it since like the 2000s. And it was great. Small neighborhood with a bunch of homes. Can't wait for WoW housing, it sounds like it could be awesome.
They better let is make houses on quel'thalas. Horde confined to orc stuff is really tiring as an easern kingdoms horde race.

Player housing is going to be a total let down and used as a vehicle to sell bs on the cash shop.
Im excited and glad they're gonna try and do it right but I also wanted my house to be in something like Andorhal ruins because my mains forsaken and has been for 20 years.
Hopefully they expand the "Neighborhood" areas to include Northrend, Khaz Modan, Lorderon, Arathi, and Pandaria. Heck even the Draenie have settlements to in Kalimdor/Azeroth. Plus are homes limited to characters or per player?
What a waste of time and resources. They will all be empty in a few months. People don't play games to play house. Every MMO I have been in that has player housing always ends up empty after a while. Guild housing should be the only thing as it will always have several people using it at once.
The only way that I see that this is good for the game besides like people buying stuff you know is that it could balance the server load So instead of everybody clogging up the city cities they could just have their spawn point from home.
Night elves living in Elwynn and Westfall when they literally have a new world tree to call home. Gilneans still can't go back to Gilneas. Great work, blizz.
