  1. 13 years later, this song is a testament to the generation that lost itself in front of the screen, the generation that "shut the door and toured on to the rest of its days". Some of the lyrics in this song are beautiful, and I'm endlessly grateful for this song.

  2. Don't be hard on yourselves, guys. Plenty of people (IRL) are something somewhere, but no where else. A good worker in the office? A terrible spouse at home and a loser with no friends. A singer-songwriter? Maybe they're liked by fans but no one in their personal lives.

We all have spaces where we're heroes, but that doesn't always extend outside of that space. Gaming is NO different! GAME ON AND BE THE AWESOME PERSON YOU KNOW YOU ARE

  3. As being someone who played wow since vanilla (2005) till cata for 5 years I've had a lot of fond memories over those years but in the end I saw this video and it was some of the final nails in the coffin for this game and I would never go back I realized that it was just a game

  4. during this time i was playing wow, Halo, Yugioh, and had a 7 to 7 job…. and i just got a new German shepherd… i would trade almost anything to relive those days

  5. me as a teenager "heh, lame, won't ever be me, great song though!"
Me as a 27year old who has acomplished very little outside of video games: "oh this hurts… great song though…"

  6. Clearly this timeless masterpiece of a video has created a sort of time capsule effect in the comments, in the sense that there are so many comments from random years talking about how we all used to feel like the lyrics of this song. So I'll drop my own.

It's currently September of 2023, Dragonflight is the current state of the game. Last month marked 17 years since I first began playing. To this day, I still have an active subscription, but I rarely play. I played a fair amount in Shadowlands, but nothing like in the days this song/video was made. Now? Well DF launched almost a year ago and my main is still one level short of max as of this writing, so… things aren't moving much.

It's just not the same. The game and life are both so different. It's good that my life has progressed obviously, but it still saddens me to see what the game is now. It's also weird and sad to think back to when we all basically tried to live in the game because it was so great, and because the community was so great (maybe that's not the right term, but the community was exceptionally dedicated, if nothing else). The game is now really more of a shell of what it once was. None of the people who created WoW are involved with it anymore – and sadly, it shows. It's not the same Blizzard.

Perhaps it's better this way? I don't even know. Part of me wants to love the game as I once did, but part of me is glad that I don't, I guess? Either way, I will always love what the game used to be… even though I definitely drained way too much of my life into it over the years, which makes me feel like I shouldn't love it at all. Idk man, maybe WoW would be better described as SoS, "Syndrome of Stockholm".

I hate to think of it that way; but looking back, I've never been sure how to feel about it. I guess WoW is the perfect example of what happens when entertainment is taken too far by the consumer. All those years, did it add value to my life (especially when I would have rather the game had been my life, preferring it over my real one)? Well I certainly had a lot of fun with it, which is valuable to a degree. And that's the point of entertainment. But what did I miss out on in my real life while I was logged into my main character alone for over a year and a half straight of real time (not to mention my many alts)?

It's crazy to think about, and this song demonstrated this problem as it was happening. I heard the lyrics and their meaning back then, but I was so deep into that mindset that it just made me love the song all the more because it was so relatable – somehow without seeing what a problem that was.

This turned into quite the novel, but maybe I explained why this song hurts in just the right way for someone else too? They say hindsight is 20:20, but sometimes it's not that clear.

  7. Today I woke up and this song was playing in my head. It feels really strange because I don't play WoW anymore. Last time when I logged in with my char there's an list of offline for years friends

I don't know. I miss the time when we were playing together. And when I was young and believed that life became better

Oh why can't life be like the game..

  8. I woke up somedays ago singing this song after not having heard it for 10 years at least! Luckily I remembered the 12 days of Winterveil song and found your channel once again!

  9. Eleven years ago I thought this was your worst song because it didn't make me laugh.
Now I listen to this song in abject horror, for I have become this.
